Social Security disability benefits replace a percentage of your earnings when you become disabled. Each year, you are sent a "Social Security Statement" showing your earnings history and an estimate of the disability benefits you and your family may receive based on those earnings. If you cannot work because of a physical or mental condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death, you are likely eligible for Social Security benefits.
